Play Entry Workflow

For Offense

Process Summary:

1. Set the Initial (Drive Starting) Yard Line and Hash
2. Select the Offensive Play Call
3. Select the Defensive Front
4. Select the Defensive Coverage
5. Select the Defensive Blitz (If Applicable)
6. Select the Ball Carrier/Target
7. Select the Play Type (Run, Pass, or Penalty)
8. Select the Play Result from the Pop-Up Modal
9. Set the New Yard Line and Hash in the Pop-Up Modal
10. Tap ‘Add Play’

Process Details:

1. Every series begins on the -25 by default. If you’re starting on a different yard line, simply tap the correct starting yard line. Make sure to use negative numbers (e.g., -25) for yard lines on the far half of the field and positive numbers (e.g., 25) for yard lines on the near (scoring) half of the field. Select the correct starting hash (L, R, M). You don’t need to worry about down & distance—the system automatically sets the first play of a series as 1st & 10.

2. Select the personnel, formation, (if applicable) motion, protection, play concept, and (if applicable) any tags or adjustments corresponding with the offensive play that’s called. If you’ve mapped ‘Tempo Calls’, simply tap on the corresponding button and the rest of the play details will automatically populate for you.

3. Select the defensive front your opponent lines up in. The terminology for defensive front can be manipulated within the ‘Settings’ interface—it can be as simple or specific as you’d like (e.g., 3-Man, 3-4, Bear, etc.)

4. Select the defensive coverage your opponent shows/runs. The terminology for defensive coverage can be manipulated within the ‘Settings’ interface—it can be as simple or specific as you’d like (e.g., Man, Zone, MOFO, MOFC, Cover 1, Cover 4 - Palms, etc.)

5. (If applicable) Select the defensive blitz your opponent runs. The terminology for defensive blitz can be manipulated within the settings interface—it can be as simple or specific as you’d like (e.g., 1, 2, A, B, Middle, Boundary, Field, Dogs, etc.).

6. Select the button which corresponds with the ball carrier or target name or number. Player names or numbers can be manipulated within the ‘Settings’ interface. If you intend to upload stats directly from Modern Football into MaxPreps, we recommend utilizing player numbers.

7. Select the button which corresponds with the play type—run, pass, or penalty. We don’t have a button for punts; if it’s 4th down and you intend to punt, simply wait until the ball is kicked, then hit the three lines in the upper right corner of the Play Entry interface and select ‘New Series’. Similarly, if you go for it on 4th down but aren’t successful, select ‘New Series’ after that play. Our system will automatically keep track of series numbers and down & distance.

8-10. After you select the play type (Run, Pass, or Penalty), you will see a new pop-up window appear. Within this window, first select the play result (on the left side of the window). You will then set the resulting (new) yard line and hash, then hit ‘Add Play’.

If it’s a run play, the two options available are: Run TD and Lost Fumble; if neither of these two options occurred, you don’t have to select anything else for play result—‘Run’ is already selected.

If it’s a pass play, the six options available are: Pass TD, Incomplete, Comp/Fumble, Interception, Scramble, and Sack. If none of these six options occurred, you don’t have to select anything else for the play result—the system will automatically assume the pass resulted in a completion.

If you select ‘Penalty’ for play type, a different pop-up window will appear. Within this window you will select whether it was an offensive or defensive penalty, then set the resulting (new) yard line and hash and hit ‘Add Play’.
